With fifty-six participants from Egypt, Ethiopia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Gambiam, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, Rwanda, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe and the Republic of the Sudan, the UNWTO Regional Executive Training Course in the Republic of the Sudan on Crisis Communications in Tourism, organized by the World Tourism Organization, its UNWTO.Themis Foundation and the Government of the Republic of Sudan and its Ministry of Tourism, Antiquities and Wildlife, was closed on 18th November by Mr. Mohammed Abuzaid Mustafa – Minister of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, Mr. Hugougi Hatim Alwasila – Governor of Atbara State, Mr. Mahmoud Mohamed Mahmoud – State Minister of Investment, Tourism and Handcraft and General Tabib Babiker Ibrahim – Mayor of Shendi State with presence of UNWTO members and the facilitators.
Upon successful completion of this capacity building programme, participants were able to understand better the nature of different type of crises and assess the threat they pose to a destination’s tourism economy. Also, they were able to understand and start adopting various crisis communication tools and techniques available and the roles each can play in minimizing the impact of crisis
